How to Set Up Your Own Elite Torrent Proxy — Hide Peer to Peer Connections from Your ISP & Everyone Else

Using an elite proxy server for torrent downloading (ie, as a torrent proxy) is one of my personal favorite uses for elite proxies. You set up the proxy server (with my tutorial) the same way everyone else does, but instead of changing the connection settings in your web browser (ie, changing the ip address and port#) you change it in your torrent client program instead.

For example, in uTorrent or bitTorrent (which are pretty much identical) go to: Options >>> Preferences >>> Connection. Plug in the ip address & port# of the “torrent proxy” (ie, the one you just set up using my tutorial) and now you have an elite torrent proxy server, in this case, an elite “uTorrent Proxy” or an elite “bitTorrent Proxy”.

… You can circumvent/bypass your ISP and download torrents without your ISP knowing, nor monitoring & tracking your torrent downloads. The screenshot below shows how to change the ip address and port number that the uTorrent & bitTorrent torrent clients use to connect to the internet (and download it’s torrents through) as described above.

Also notice that there are fields to also enter your torrent proxy’s username and password (both of which will be set up by you while setting up the proxy server as described in the tutorial). You really shouldn’t need any more information than what I’ve already got here (ie, just get the tutorial, set up the proxy, plug your new ip address & port# into the utorrent / bittorrent client as shown below).

Undetectable Torrent Proxy Tutorial

This extremely quick tutorial (.pdf) shows you how to quickly set up your own personal elite proxy server on a remote dedicated virtual private server (VPS) by typing in 5 short command lines. I’ve already pre-written all the proxy scripting, and pre-configured the configuration file, so all you have to do is type in the 5 command lines, type the new ip address into your web browser’s and/or torrent client’s (utorrent, bittorrent, etc.) connections settings in the proxy server settings section. The proxy tutorial also includes a list of links to extremely cheap unmanaged remote VPS hosting companies (if you don’t already have one). We only need a tiny, tiny bare-bones unmanaged vps, so many hosts offer such a bare-metal box (development server) for somewhere in the neighborhood of $6 or $10 bucks.

What is a Torrent Proxy Server?

A torrent proxy server is a private proxy server that you use to download torrent files through. In most cases you do this to circumvent or bypass your ISP (ie, so that your ISP cannot block, monitor, track, or record your torrent downloading activities). Most torrent client programs have a connection settings section where you can change the ip address and port number the torrent client uses to connect to and download the torrents through. So a torrent proxy server is the server who’s ip address you use. We set up the torrent proxy on a virtual private server and then install a proxy script on it; so technically the ip address being used is the ip address of the vps that we’ve turned into a proxy server.

Why Do I Need a Torrent Proxy Server?

If you don’t already know this stuff, like if you don’t already know that internet service providers (ISP’s) monitor, track, and record every single tiny bit of your internet activities (and in many cases actually block access to certain content or activities) then you should understand that they can and do, do this; and that it’s 100% perfectly LEGAL for them to do it. It’s all legal because they own every aspect of your connection to the internet. Since they own it, anything you do on it is legally now their property (ie, all the data you send through their equipment now belongs to them) in fact, you probably even signed something saying that you know and understand that in your service agreement.

And obviously if you’re reading this page, you’re probably having some problems with your ISP as related to downloading torrents, and thus need a torrent proxy server for downloads. Using a torrent proxy server for downloads is perfectly legal. The only thing that would be illegal is if you were downloading illegal content (but obviously that has nothing whatsoever to do with the proxy server anyway). Unfortunately however, ISP’s don’t really have a good way to separate (nor pass judgement on) whether what you’re downloading in legal or otherwise, and thus, most end up just throwing them all in a basket and blocking all torrent downloads. Obviously that’s a problem, and very likely censorship, because downloading legal files legally via peer to peer clients and networks (ie, utorrent, bittorrent, etc) is (obviously) legal, and thus, your ISP shouldn’t be blocking you from utilizing such files, nor blocking you from accessing such legal content and resources (because, obviously, again, that would be censorship). And thus, you have arrived here looking to learn how to set up a torrent proxy server to bypass your ISP blocks and censorship.

A Torrent Proxy Works by (in effect) Bypassing Your ISP:

Instead of downloading files directly, your torrent proxy actually downloads them for you and then you download them from your torrent proxy server. That might seem complicated or a pain to accomplish, but in reality, the whole process is entirely transparent to you, because to accomplish all that I just said, all you do is change the connection settings in your torrent client program (as described above, and illustrated below) and then just download with the torrent client as usual. Once you change the setting the first time, it will stay that way until you change it back to NOT connecting through your torrent proxy server.

So now obviously in order to be able to change those connection settings; you need something to change them to. And that means that you need to set up a private proxy server (and use it’s ip address) to connect through. Once the private proxy server is setup, you plug it’s ip address, port number, username and password into the torrent client (illustration below) and then go about your business sharing files as normal, but now your ISP has no idea that you’re even doing it, let alone being able to monitor, track and record it. To the ISP it looks like you connect to some personal computer somewhere, and nothing else. Picture it like a closed door. Your ISP can see you go into (ie, connect to) some computer, but they have no idea where you go from there, or what you’re doing while in there. In fact, it would be ILLEGAL for them to even try, because now it’s your equipment, NOT theirs.

Set Up a Torrent Proxy for ISP’s that Throttle Torrent Downloads:

Many ISP’s are now “throttling” torrent downloads (ie, they’re dramatically slowing down, if not outright “blocking” users from downloading torrent files) and typically they don’t even tell you that they’re doing it; so in most cases you probably just think your torrent downloads are slow for normal reasons, when in fact, they’re slow because your ISP is intentionally slowing them down on you. Generally their reasoning is that torrent downloads are huge bandwidth hogs. Once again, elite proxy server to the rescue. Set yourself up with your own personal torrent proxy and your ISP won’t even know that you’re downloading torrents, let alone be able to throttle them. — You Are Here: Set Up Your Own Elite Torrent Proxy Server for Downloads

Why Torrent Proxy Users Should Immediately Update to uTorrent v2.2 (or newer)

: I’m extremely happy with utorrent for making these changes, both from a personal standpoint, and from a professional one. From the personal perspective, I’m happy because I can now download anonymously myself. And from the professional perspective, I’m extremely happy because these great new changes to utorrent have given my business a really nice bump in sales of my 10 minute elite proxy server tutorial and setup service (ie, from utorrent users wanting to set up a high anonymous elite torrent proxy…

Set Up a bitTorrent Proxy Server

: Set up a bitTorrent proxy server for downloading torrent files via the bitTorrent client anonymously without your ISP (or anyone else for that matter) knowing that you’re doing it. A high anonymous elite proxy server setup serves as the torrent proxy server. Once you set up the proxy, just put the proxy’s ip address and port number into the bitTorrent client’s connection settings section under the “Proxy Server” label (options >> preferences >> connection). I’m assuming you already know why you need to set up a bitTorrent proxy, but just in case you don’t, I’ll give you the…

How Soon Will a Torrent Proxy Server Start Working?

: Your torrent proxy server will start working immediately after you set it up. So if it takes you ten minutes to set it up, then it will start working in ten minutes. The vps server will be online as soon as the hosting company sends you your order confirmation email with the vps server’s ip address and root password. You can check to be sure, either by pinging the ip address, or by just starting the proxy setup (ie, if you can login to the vps via the secure shell, putty or jellyfissh for example, then you will know that the server is online and…

Building a Better Torrent Proxy Server

: I’ve stopped explaining the advantages of having your own personal/private elite proxy server over using public proxies, because the advantages of private over public should already be pretty obvious to everyone (especially to anyone reading this site, and thus, already expressing an interest in learning how to set up a torrent proxy server of there own). As a result, this short page is just a quick explanation of what I did to make the whole process of setting up a personal proxy server so much quicker, and so much easier for non-programmers to setup for themselves with…

How Much Will it Cost to Set Up My Own Personal Torrent Proxy?

: My 10 minute tutorial is only $20 bucks, and the hosting fee for an unmanaged remote vps server generally costs a little under $10 bucks per month, depending on the hosting company you choose. That’s for the cheapest bare-bones unmanaged vps most companies have, and will generally get you somewhere in the neighborhood of about 100GB to 1,000GB of bandwidth (which is generally more than enough for an average web surfer). But if you need more bandwidth than that, you can always either upgrade your bandwidth, or get the….

Can I Put Multiple IP Addresses on My Torrent Proxy?

: Yes, putting multiple ip addresses on the same high anonymous elite proxy server (in this case, your high anonymous torrent proxy server) is very very easy to do, and most hosting companies will generally only charge you an extra dollar or two per extra ip address. And adding extra ip’s onto the proxy server only adds about another minute each onto your setup time, per ip. As far as I know the utorrent and bittorrent clients don’t have a way to load multiple ip’s at the same time, so (again, as far as I know) you would have to switch….

Bypassing Your ISP’s Torrent Downloading Blocks is Quite Easy & Can’t Be Tracked

: Bypassing your ISP’s torrent download blocks is quite an easy process, in fact, it’s actually a bit surprising that it’s so easy to do. This next part is just my opinion of course, but I think it’s so easy because ISP’s don’t really care all that much about people doing it. That sounds strange I know, but let me explain. Very few people even know what a proxy server is, let alone what a high anonymous elite proxy server is, and even fewer still know what a torrent proxy server is, or how to…
