Is an Elite Proxy Server Too Complicated
to Set Up Myself?

Probably not. It does take a bit
of patience, and
finding a good hosting deal can be a bit frustrating, but generally
speaking,
the actual process is fairly simple. Basically, all you're really doing
in
instructing the VPS to upload an elite proxy software package, creating
and/or
editing a few files for the software to use as parameters, setting up
access
codes and passwords, and configuring the VPS and proxy to allow you to
access
it from your web browser.
The first time you do it, it's a
bit intimidating, but
once you get through it and see how simple it really was; subsequent
set ups
are a breeze, because you will then be able to see the broader picture
of what
you just did. The place where most first timers usually go wrong is
trying to
rush through it and forgetting to type a space or a backslash when
entering the
code.
The part that I get the most
questions about during
set up, is the Java console access. If you don't have Java enabled in
your
browser (and configured properly) when you attempt to access the
Console Panel,
it won't load, and thus, you won't be able to enter the required code
into the
root directory of the VPS. Near the end of the instruction manual, I
have a
section entitled, "Known Java Issues" that shows you how to configure
your browser properly to allow Java access, and thus, Console Access.
The biggest pre-setup questions
are always about
finding the right VPS hosting company (which is the reason we started
doing our
own set up & hosting). The hosting companies are out there
(tons of them) and
there are always cheap packages available, but it's not as simple as
clicking a
link and filling out an order form. There are thousands of different
base
configurations available for VPS's, and these hosting companies have to
fill an
endless demand for all the various possible configurations in demand
(and some
custom ones too).
The point many people miss here
is that these hosting
companies are not in the proxy server business, in fact, VPS's were
never
intended to be used as proxy servers. This is the beauty of my system.
It's an
old trick that I first started using in my small woodworking/furniture
hobby. The
trick is to find things that are being supplied very cheaply to a mass
market
for an entirely different use, and taking advantage of that high supply
volume (and
thus, low price) and fitting them into your needs. As an example from
woodworking: I can use extremely cheap (and rigid) gas line pipe
fittings from
my local home depot as structural hardware on furniture projects. The
look fits
in perfectly with my design style, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper
than using
that much extra exotic wood to accomplish the same structural rigidity
(it
saves me a fortune, not to mention a lot of labor and bulkiness).
This is the same principal I used
here for setting up
these proxy servers on VPS's. VPS's were never intended to be used as
proxy
servers, but there is an extremely high supply volume of them, and
thus,
they're extremely cheap. We can use them (for this unintended proxy
purpose) and
save a ton of cash. VPS hosting companies rent these dirt cheap
unmanaged bare-bones
VPS's so cheaply because they know that the lessee will eventually
require a
lot of add-ons, upgrades, expansion, and support that they will be able
to bill
them heavily for. But we don't ever need any of these extras! All we're
putting
on the VPS in one light elite proxy program, and thus, no need for any
upgrades
or add-ons ever.
So that's the big point here;
these VPS hosting
companies are not marketing to people looking to set up proxy servers.
They are
not looking for us -we have to find them. It's really not all that
difficult if
you know where to look, but the expectation is often that you won't
have to do
any work to find them. It's going to take a bit of searching around and
comparing.
In the confirmation email for the
instruction manual
purchase, we send you a link to a forum where VPS hosting companies
post deals
to insiders. This is the place to start looking for a package, but it
is just
that; a starting point. You will still have to sift through the
different
threads, offers, and packages until you find the one that works. Again,
it's
really not difficult; we give you the four specs that are required, and
all you
have to do is match them up.
Alternately; recently we started
offering our own VPS
proxy server hosting for the sole purpose of eliminating this search.
However,
we cannot compete with these big hosting companies on price, and thus,
if you
don't want to do the work of finding a cheaper hosting package yourself
(or
even configuring the proxy server), you can rent one from us for a
modestly
higher price. That's the trade-off. If you rent one from us, we set the
whole
thing up for you (including the hosting) but it costs a little more. If
you set
the whole thing up yourself with our instruction manual (including
finding your
own hosting package) then you avoid our set up fee and our higher
hosting fees.
