Elite Proxy Set Up

An elite proxy set up is just a dedicated server partition (configured with an elite proxy script) that allows the user to connect through it before actually connecting to the rest of the internet. This is one of my favorite analogies; An elite proxy server is like wearing a pair of gloves to avoid leaving finger prints. Picture yourself reaching out to “grab” a copy of a webpage, but hovering between you and the webpage is a pair of gloves (with fake finger prints attached to the tips of them) that slip onto your hands just before you actually grab the page. Now you still get the exact same copy of the webpage you were reaching for, but no one knows who actually grabbed it because the gloves protected you from leaving behind your real finger prints (ip address). And since those hovering gloves were “elite”, no one even knows that the person was even wearing gloves. The finger prints left behind look just like normal finger prints would, so there’s no reason to even suspect that gloves were worn.

This is pretty much exactly how an elite proxy set up works. An ip address is detected, and that ip address looks just like any other ip address would, it doesn’t look like it came from a proxy server, it looks just like a normal pc connection would look. But the ip address left behind wasn’t YOUR ip address; it was the ip address of your elite proxy setup.

What’s even cooler, is that your internet service provider (or the search engine you used, or your school, or your employer, or your government) doesn’t know that you went out and grabbed a copy of that webpage either. Just like the elite proxy set up kept the website from following you back to your computer, it also kept those other entities from following you out-to … the webpage. An elite proxy blocks anyone trying to track you, regardless of which side of the elite proxy they’re on (it blocks equally well from either side).

One other important thing to keep in mind though, while using your elite proxy setup

; is that websites also use another method to keep track of their visitors, called a tracking cookie. A tracking cookie is like a tracking chip embedded in your computer. So if you have your browser set to allow tracking cookies, you’ve basically opened the door and invited those trying to track you, right in through your front door. An elite proxy cannot protect you if you yourself specifically allow the trackers to come right through.

For example, if while using your real ip address, you allow a site to store a tracking cookie on your computer, and then you switch to your elite proxy’s ip address without first getting rid of that tracking cookie, they will be able to identify you. Every tracking cookie has a unique identifier; and to make this easier to explain, let’s say the unique identifier of the cookie you let them embed in your computer is identifier #001. They have a database set up that logs all the activity of (among other things) both your ip address and that unique cookie. So if they see cookie #001 using your real ip address, and then later they see the same cookie also using your elite proxy ip address, they now know that you’re using two different ip addresses (ie, they now know that you’re using a proxy server) not because they can actually detect the proxy server, but because they know that if the same tracking cookie has two different ip addresses associated with it in their database, then the person “must be” using an elite proxy, because there really isn’t any other way you could accomplish that feat (multiple ip’s) without using a proxy. So although the elite proxy itself is undetectable, if you invite the enemy right in through the front door, (without first deleting their tracking cookies) they can still do the math and figure out that you “must be” using an elite proxy.

Now of course, many websites will not allow you to connect to them (or use certain features) unless you agree to let them set a tracking cookie, but they cannot prevent you from getting rid of it after you leave their site. So please, always delete your tracking cookie BEFORE you switch to your elite proxy ip address (and after in fact). If you don’t, you’re defeating the whole purpose of having an elite proxy set up in the first place. — You Are Here: Elite Proxy Set Up
