Craigslist Proxy Server:

Let's talk about why having
multiple IP's on the same Craigslist
Proxy Server is practically useless (Sequential
IP's/C-Classes) a.k.a
The Big
Craigslist Proxy Server Question: This is a big one because a lot
of people keep
requesting multiple IP's. And it's a little upsetting as well, because
I think
many of you have been misled into believing that this whole proxy thing
is
going to end all of your life's problems. Being able to get use of a
second,
third, or even a fourth IP address is quite an incredibly valuable
thing. However,
the IP addresses on your craigslist proxy server are NOT bullet-proof.
These IP
addresses are
no different than the IP you already have on your own computer, and can
be
blocked and blacklisted just as easily. This next part is ultra
important to
understand about this whole proxy server/IP address thing:
I Cannot Stress this Enough:
Bypassing Spam/IP filters
is a NUMBERS GAME. And anyone telling you that it's not is flat out
lying to
you. I don't have statistics showing where each of the major websites
have
their IP/Spam filters set, but let's put ourselves in their shoes for a
moment.
If I'm the person hired to be responsible for keeping spam out of
Craigslist (for
example) I would think that 3 or 4 ads is more than enough free ads for
one
person to post in a given 24 hour period, and thus, I'm probably going
to set
my spam filter to block any IP that posts more than that. I may not do
it the
first time or even the second time the same IP address posts more than
three or
four ads (because I want to give people the benefit of the doubt) but
eventually I'm going to have to put an end to this mischievous pattern.
And
since if this really were my job, I'd probably be pretty educated on
all of
this IP stuff, and I'd probably also keep myself quite well informed
about craigslist
proxy servers
and such, and I'd probably also have a huge staff of
people just
as smart, if not smarter, and even more up to date on such matters.
Does anyone
reading this think that Craigslist (or any of the other big sites) are
oblivious to the fact that a craigslist proxy server exists …especially
since it's their job
to know about such things ...to protect themselves and their empires?
I
think that too many people are coming here thinking
that this is some magic bullet (and I have my suspicions about where
they got
that idea). Let me say it again: This whole thing is a NUMBERS GAME.
Craigslist
(for example) thinks that 3 or 4 ads a day is more than enough for one
person. So
if you want to semi-consistently post 12 ads per day (for example) you
have to "appear"
to be at least three or four different people, on different computers,
and
preferably in different geographic locations. In order to accomplish
this most
effectively, you need to have three or four different IP addresses on
different
computers, in different cities.
Probably, the most basic way to
do this would be to
have a home in four different cities, with a different computer in each
of
them, and fly around to your different residences every day posting a
few ads
from each, but obviously that's incredibly impractical. However, we can
pretty
much accomplish this same effect using a private craigslist proxy server in
different
cities, each with totally unique IP addresses, and access each of them
very
easily with a few clicks of the mouse directly from our home web
browser via
the internet. This doesn't cost nearly as much as having multiple
residences
around the country, but at the same time, it's not a free lunch.
If you know how to set up a
private craigslist
proxy server
for
yourself (or are willing to learn) and if you also have the time and
determination to find a few VPS hosting companies that will let you set
up
proxies on their servers, then the entire process becomes quite a bit
cheaper,
but still not a free lunch. For example, if you want 20 unique IP
addresses, to
do this right, you will have to find about 20 hosting companies (or a
few that
have servers in multiple cities) it will probably cost you about $200
per month
in hosting fees (about $10 each per IP/VPS). To me, if you're really
going to
be posting twenty people worth of free ads (60-80 per day - 3 ads x 20
IP's or 4
ads x 20 IP's) I would hope that you would be making way more than
enough money
from those 60-80 or so ads per day (that's 1800-2400 per month btw) to
be able
to afford $200 in IP hosting fees (if not, what's the point posting so
many
ads?) Alternately you could just pay for the ads directly -do the math
and see
which is cheaper. For the moment, this country is still pretty much
capitalist,
so you have to weigh out your options (is paying directly for 1800-2400
ads per
month cheaper than paying $200 per month for IP hosting?) I'll help you
out a
little here: $200 for 1800 ads is 11-cents per ad. And $200 for 2400
ads is 8-cents
per ad. Can you find ads cheaper than $00.11 or $00.08 each? If so,
there's
your answer. And furthermore, and again, if each of your ads isn't
profiting
you way more than 11 cents each, what's the point of posting those ads?
Why even worry about having a craigslist proxy?
Is there a
shortcut for your craigslist proxy?
Yes, there is a bit of a
shortcut, but it's a very short lived shortcut. You can very easily and
very
cheaply put multiple IP addresses on the same VPS, and thus have
multiple IP's
without having to pay hosting fees for multiple VPS proxies. However, I
highly,
highly recommend that you don't waste your time doing this, and I'll
now
explain to you exactly why I feel that way. The engineers at Craigslist
(for
example) are not stupid. When they see, IP XXX.XXX.XXX.001,
XXX.XXX.XXX.002,
XXX.XXX.XXX.003, and XXX.XXX.XXX.004 all posting similar ads, for the
same
website, from the same city, on the same server, from the same host, on
the
same day, every day, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the
ads are
all being posted by the same person! Hosting companies are assigned IP
addresses in giant SEQUENTIAL blocks. If you wait, and add more IP's
onto the
VPS over time, they will be slightly different, but the first three
sections
will still be identical. The only solution is to get multiple VPS proxy
servers
from different hosting companies, in different cities. And Yes, that
does cost
more, but does it cost more than paying for 2400 ads?
Practice What You Preach?
If you will kindly stroll on
over to my "We'll
Set it Up for You" page, you will see
that we do not host more than three (3) proxy servers for any one
person,
BECAUSE we only have servers in three (3) different cities, and thus,
giving
you more than one craigslist proxy server from the same city/host
combination (in
my
opinion) would be stealing from you, because your IP address would be
so
similar, that they would be basically useless to you (they would be
from the
same C-class (giant block of sequential IP's) they would announce that
they
were from the same city and the same host, even the same lat. and
long.) .
There are no
real short cuts with a craigslist proxy.
This service has its
limitations just like any other thing in life. You get what you pay
for, and
quite frankly, our prices are really damn good. We charge a $100 "turn
the
vps into an elite craigslist
proxy server for you" fee per
proxy server (and thus,
per very unique IP). If you
can find a
better deal than that without having to set up the proxies yourself,
and
without having to find the hosting yourself (and with only one IP per
city/host)
then listen very carefully to what I'm about to say....... stop reading
my
website right now and get over to their site immediately. And if it
wouldn't be
too much to ask; Please send me a link to their site, because I'll
scrap mine
and become an affiliate for them (I would love not to have to host
these things.
It's stressful worrying about my IP's. All I wanted to do was sell my
damn
instruction manual!). Oh yes, by the way, I almost forgot...
If you
buy the instruction manual and just learn how
to do this for yourself (learn to set up a your own personal
elite craigslist
proxy server) you really can solve most of the
issues
discussed
here, because you will NOT be shackled to my three proxy limit, and it
will be
cheaper than my craigslist
proxy server set up.
If you want 20 really unique IP addresses, just rent
hosting
packages from twenty different hosting companies (or find the ones that
have
servers in multiple cities ...many do these days). Configure each one
of
them
yourself, and you're in business. That is NOT sarcasm by the way.
Setting up 20 craigslist
proxy servers
yourself may seem daunting right now, but I swear, by the time
you set
up your second or third one, you won't even need to use the instruction
manual
anymore (other than to copy the code from). It really is pretty damned
simple
once you actually do it. We even send you a link to a hosting forum
where these
hosting companies go to post special deals on their VPS's, so finding a
good
deal isn't as hard as it would be otherwise either (please note;
finding 20
good hosting packages/companies with the specs we need isn't going to
happen
overnight, it takes some real digging around, but as I said, there is
no free
lunch here. If it's worth it, then it's worth it, just do the math).
At present I have no plans, nor
desire to acquire servers
in more than the three cities I already have them in (if you hadn't
noticed,
I'm not real thrilled about even having those three, but apparently I'm
the
only one with the testicular fortitude to try this crazy scheme of
turning over
my proxy servers to vandals such as yourselves). If it's not too much
to ask,
please stop requesting "Yo dude, I need 50 IP's by tomorrow,
Cool?"
For the foreseeable future (if you need more than three IP's) you're
just going
to half to buy my manual and do it yourself. Or you could always try
out that
other guy and his multiple sequential IP farce.
In the meantime I promise you
this: I will work quite
diligently trying to find a better solution for all you IP starved CL
users. I
understand your problem, and I understand your great desire for a
solution to
it, and trust me; if I can figure it out, I'll plaster it all over this
site,
and as much of the rest of the web as I can. Until then... consider
learning
how to do this for yourself. It's really quite gratifying. Its twenty
measly bucks
and it wouldn't hurt to know what you're doing even if you have me set
them up
for you. Consider this, if I had to shut this website down tomorrow,
you'd know
that there was a way to set up an elite craigslist proxy server, but you wouldn't
have a clue
how to do it. How frustrating would that be! And then you'd have to
find and
pay some freelance programmer to set one up for you ('cuz those guys
are cheap,
and never ever busy with their own stuff ...for those unfamiliar with the
dry-arts,
that last bit there was sarcasm) and thus, then be
dependent on him/her
for
your livelihood. And have to pay him a heeeeeeeeeeell of a lot more
than twenty
bucks!
By the
way, one last thing; I don't know everything
there is to know about all this stuff. I keep myself pretty well
informed and
up to date about this whole craigslist
proxy server thing, but quite
frankly, there are a hell of a lot of people out
there
that are a hell of a lot smarter than I am. Maybe there's a craigslist
proxy server solution
out
there that I don't know about yet (if you find it, please *no sarcasm*
let me know
what it is). Please don't take my semi-educated opinions as gospel. Use
my
advice/service/manual until you find someone with better advice. That's
probably the best way to approach most things in life anyway. As
always; I hope
this was informative, and seriously... twenty bucks?... you big CL
posters make
twenty bucks in the time it takes you to yawn about this page... take a
second
look at my manual. …thanx,
MT
