Can I Put Multiple IP Addresses on My Torrent Proxy?
Yes, putting multiple ip addresses on the same high anonymous elite proxy server (in this case, your own high anonymous torrent proxy server) is very very easy to do, and most hosting companies will generally only charge you an extra dollar or two per extra ip address. And adding extra ip’s onto the proxy server only adds about another minute each onto your setup time, per ip. As far as I know the utorrent and bittorrent clients don’t have a way to load multiple ip’s at the same time, so (again, as far as I know) you would have to switch ip’s manually in the connection settings section whenever you wanted to change ip’s (ie, whenever you wanted to use a different ip address to download the torrents through).
Note: multiple ip’s are not necessary for most torrent downloaders. Generally one ip is more than enough, but if you have specific reasons for wanting more than one ip address to download torrents through, then this setup makes that very very easy to accomplish.
The setup of the torrent proxy does take a touch longer if you add extra ip’s onto it, but it’s only one command line each per extra ip address, and a bit of extra editing in the squid.conf configuration file. If you’re not already familiar with how to use the free PuTTY SSH client/program to securely connect to a remote server (and if you even care) this page explains how simple it is: How to Connect to a Remote VPS Server w/ the Free Secure Shell Program (SSH PuTTY)
If you’re not interested in the details, don’t worry about it; my 10 minute proxy tutorial covers it very quickly right in the beginning, and doesn’t go into all the detail that page there does (ie, connecting to a remote server via SSH PuTTY is as simple as typing in the ip address of the remote vps server you want to connect to and clicking the “open” button).
Then you just login to the “root” of the vps using the username “root”, and the root password the vps hosting company emails when you place the hosting order (roughly $6 – $10 month for the cheap bare bones unmanaged vps needed for this).
The only requirement for the server is that it’s an Unmanaged Linux VPS, and you have the option to choose one of the Ubuntu distros w/ full “root” access (any version number will do). Don’t get nervous if you don’t already understand what that means, because you really don’t even need to; all you need to know is that when you place the vps hosting order, you choose “Ubuntu” from the selection menu when asked which operating system (OS) you want loaded on your remote server.
The only other thing you need to know as far as adding multiple “extra” ip addresses onto your torrent proxy server, is that it generally takes vps hosting companies a little longer to add the extra ip’s onto the server than the initial set up with the one default ip address. It’s not a big deal; typically about a half a day. — You Are Here: Can I Put Multiple IP Addresses on My Torrent Proxy
OPTION #1:
Standard Version
Use this option to set up as many elite proxy servers as you want to for the rest of your life. It will never become outdated because the script automatically updates itself every time you use it.
OPTION #2:
Advanced Version
Same as option #1 above but also includes instructions for putting multiple ip addresses on the same proxy server. Don't bother with this option if you only need 1 new ip address (most users) but if you want to put lots of different ip addresses all on the same proxy then this is the option for you.
